Golden Sprint winner You Never Listen produced an impressive winning return to racing when landing a Romford 400m open on Friday night in 24.00. It was the Crayford record holder’s 17th win in 31 outings, and her winning time was 39 spots slower than her personal best over course and distance.
Trainer Jim Reynolds said: “It was a very good run but I wasn’t so surprised given her trial last week (24.22) when she absolutely flew the traps.”
There had been a five month gap between her last two races, though the kennel are hopeful of a clear run going forward.
Reynolds continued: “After she won at Romford, we had the Derby in our sights but were aware that she may come in season. We took the decision not to suppress her, or to run her mid season, which is physically possible but not something I am keen on.
“Then she was on her way back when her kennelmate bit her. I was amazed because he is the most placid dog in the kennel. I don’t know what she gets up to, but the next two dogs we tried her with had a go at her as well! Maybe she nags them!
“Thankfully we are now past that stage and looking forward. I don’t like to plan too far ahead and Romford is a reasonable option until we get things sorted. We might consider the Yarmouth Derby in due course. I am convinced she will get the trip (462m) well enough, it is simply a case of whether she would run the track. If that turns out to be the plan, we’ll give her a number of looks at the track first.”
