Kevin Hutton is able to put a first tick next to ‘Golden Sprint’ on his extending list of ‘Cat 1’ successes after Forest Chunk’s went unbeaten through the £10,000 Romford event.
With likely favourite Kilmore Lemon withdrawn midweek, the well drawn favourite was narrowly last across the winning line for the first time with just half a length separating the field.
The Henlow record holder took full advantage of his position at the first bend and drove through on the inside of Bockos Alfie. Although Newlawn Adam eventually sized second place, the leader was never going to be caught and crossed the line in 24.03.
Winning trainer Kevin Hutton said: “It was a shame for connections of Kilmore Lemon but our lad made the most of an ideal draw. I thought he was fearless at the first bend. I am delighted for owners Mike and George Burton to finally get a long overdue big race success.
“Although Chunk has won over 480, he isn’t top class over that extra distance. After representing us in the sprint at the Trainers Championship, the plan is to go for the Golden Crest at Poole.”
