Mark Bird, Managing Director of GBGB, has confirmed today that the regulator will continue to provide industry-wide welfare contributions, totalling over £240,000 for the month of May, to safeguard the welfare of greyhounds and help trainers meet their basic needs. Trainers can expect these payments to paid by 7th May.
In addition, GBGB will continue to provide the same level of monthly payment – c. £15 per dog – to those retired greyhounds currently supported by branches of The Greyhound Trust.
Announcing the payments, Mark Bird said: “Until racing can safely resume, we are making these payments to protect the welfare of all racing greyhounds in licensed kennels and those retired greyhounds currently housed by The Greyhound Trust at its kennel branches.”
