“As has been previously announced Tom Kelly decided not to extend his tenure as Greyhound Board of Great Britain Chairman and stepped down from that position at the end of March. GBGB Chief Executive Barry Faulkner said, “While Tom will no longer be the Chair, he has agreed to continue working with the GBGB in a consultancy role until the end of 2017, focussed solely on assisting the Board with its work on achieving an equitable solution to the future funding of greyhound racing.”
Mr Kelly said, “I took the chair almost two years ago because it was thought I could help address greyhound racing’s funding problems. I am encouraged by the appointment of Lord Lipsey as a mediator in this process and I intend to stick around until we have a resolution one way or the other”
The GBGB Nominations Committee is considering the process by which a new Chairman will be appointed.”
(This is absolutely disgraceful. Two years on and no deal with the betting industry – as predicted on this website. Yet another pay day for Kelly? This is a disgusting development (assuming Kelly is being paid and not contributing his time for free) though not entirely unexpected. Small wonder that the grass roots of a struggling industry is so entirely disenfranchised from the board that sets out to run it. Maybe there will be another extension – in another eight months time of non-progress. . . ? Watch this space- Ed)
