GBGB has today announced that the 2021 GBGB Greyhound of the Year Awards will be held virtually. GBGB had hoped to hold the ceremony in-person but given the rapid rise in Covid infections and continuing uncertainty around further restrictions, the decision has been made to move the ceremony online.

Launching the virtual awards ceremony, GBGB CEO Mark Bird said:

“Last year’s virtual awards were a great success and enabled the entire greyhound community to come together to celebrate the stars of our sport.  With current Covid infection rates so high, we hope that these virtual awards will enable more people from across the country to join the ceremony than would otherwise have been able to.  Despite the challenges of Covid, we have had another excellent year of racing and these awards will recognise the achievements of everyone working in our sport as well as the greyhounds themselves.

“Like many people across the sport, I was looking forward to attending the event in person but given the current situation we must prioritise the health and safety of everyone across the sport. We will be announcing a date for the awards in due course, and I very much hope we can host the ceremony in person next year.”

Further details on the awards will be released shortly.
