GBGB Appoints Professor Madeleine Campbell as Independent Director

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has today announced the appointment of Professor Madeleine Campbell as Non-Executive Independent Director. She takes over the role from Dr Peter Webbon who is standing down after six years on the GBGB Board.

A leading expert in the field of animal welfare, ethics and law, Professor Campbell is currently Senior Lecturer in Human: Animal Interactions and Ethics at the Royal Veterinary College, Professor of Veterinary Ethics at Nottingham University and Chair of the Ethics and Welfare Advisory Panel at the British Veterinary Association.

As a member of the GBGB Board, Professor Campbell will oversee the development of a holistic and overarching welfare and ethics strategy to support the Greyhound Commitment. This will include a review into track safety and injuries within the sport. In so doing, she will work closely with GBGB’s newly appointed Track Liaison Officer, Mark Peacock, who takes up his post today.  She will also Chair the Welfare and Veterinary Standing Committee.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Campbell said: “Through the Greyhound Commitment, there has been a noticeable positive step-change in the standards of welfare across licensed greyhound racing and a number of GBGB’s recent initiatives are proving successful. I look forward now to building on this by working with the entire greyhound racing community to deliver upon the sport’s commitment and desire to safeguard the welfare of all racing greyhounds, across their lifetimes.”
