Romford Tips from Joe

***6.53 Romford – Brindle Bully (4/5 Coral)
**9.28 Romford – Never Say No (7/2 Coral)
*7.44 Romford – Whitewood Lenny (7/2 Coral)

As one Category One event at Romford comes to a close, another one begins with the start of the Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes over 575m. Also supporting the card is the brilliant Coral Silver Standard over 400m with six heats of each giving us a stella line up to look forward to over two distances.

Friday’s Nap

The Nap of the evening is Brindle Bully in the Coral Silver Standard Heat Two at 6.53, who is available at 4/5 with Coral. He has a perfect draw to work from in trap six with Piemans Goalie in trap five almost certainly heading towards the inside. The way Brindle Bully is running, 4/5 looks a more than generous price with him expected to be closer to 1/2 near the off.

Next Best

The Next best is trap four Never Say No in the PGR Champion Stakes Heat Five at 9.28. A 7/2 chance with Coral, Never Say No is not ideally drawn in trap four but a smart break from this draw should see him clear the inside trio. Droopys Vivacity in trap one looks the main danger to the pick. If Never Say No manages to lead, he can put in a big run and at a working man’s price, he is worth siding with.

Other selections

Davo You Go can take heat one of the Silver Standard, Not So Slow can follow up last week’s second to Links Maverick in the match race by winning heat three. Headford Genius can take heat four, Whitewood Lenny looks well drawn in heat five to go well and Cunnigar Yousir can get back to winning ways in heat six.

The Champion Stakes kicks off with the short priced ante-post favourite New Destiny who should make no mistakes in heat one. Fabulous Sonique can continue her rich vein of form by giving Mark Wallis a quick fire Champion Stakes heat double in heat two. Birmingham Cup finalist Aayamza Sydney can enjoy the step up in trip by taking heat three. The well-supported Gary The Arb can give ante post backers a promising start by winning heat four and East Anglian Derby finalist Swift Depot can arrive late to win heat six.

Star Sports with big Pelaw plans

An announcement was made yesterday about the new actions for the track.

The two biggest were the increase in prize money now that Star Sports are in charge and an extra meeting every week on a Saturday afternoon. Both that and the Sunday evening meeting will be covered by SIS.

The Grade A1 and A2 races will offer £450 and £440 in prize money, with £150 and £140 going to the winner respectively, while at the bottom end of the scale, the A8 races will offer £105 to the winner with a total pot of £305 for the race.

Star Pelaw will also have racing on Boxing Day as well as a potential fixture scheduled for New Year’s Day.

Kim Sanzone, Star’s Head of Greyhound Racing Operations said: “Star Pelaw are delighted to be able to offer an increase in prize money to further demonstrate our commitment to the track and to all the trainers and owners who have supported us.

“We hope to be able to offer even more commitment with other initiatives and incentives as we progress our track ownership.”
