Good Judgement

For a kennel that primarily earns its living with graded runners, Richard Rees sees Saturday’s PGR Judgement Night meeting as an integral fixture in the open race Calendar.

On Wednesday, Hove hosted a lunch for Judgement Night connections. Four of the kennels were represented with apologies from County Durham based Tom Heilbron and Kevin Hutton who was actually at Newcastle that morning.

Richard said: “It was a shame that due to the circumstances some of the kennels couldn’t be represented, though I did think GBGB would have been there. Hove did a great job of it.

“But for a kennel like ours, and our staff, who have worked their socks off to get here, and for the sport as a whole, I think Judgement Night is a great thing. I really do.

“We are under no illusions, we haven’t got a kennel ful of superstars. We’ve done well to get here.”

Here are Richard’s views of his team’s chances:

We will feature the thoughts of other Judgement Night trainers tomorrow.

Punters looking for an edge for tomorrow’s PGR Judgement Night meeting at Hove may appreciate knowing where the trainers are putting their (donated) money. It looks as though the staying race could be pretty competitive!

Racing Manager Rob Abrey said: “As all six trainers are at the track it seems rude not to get them to pick one out, they felt could win. We gave them a mythical £100 to choose one greyhound from the six Judgement Night races.

“Any correct winning selections will then be paid out by Coral at SP and given to the three affiliated re-homing centres to Hove. We’re very confident they can do it! But if they don’t (more than likely!) we will donate £500 ourselves.”

Below are the selections:-

Liz McNair – King Capaldi (Race 3 – PGR Judgement Night Stayers)

Richard Rees – Cochise (Race 5 – PGR Judgement Night Standard)

Mark Wallis – Ballymac John (Race 5 – PGR Judgement Night Standard)

John Mullins – Aayamza Dancer (Race 9 – PGR Judgement Night Stayers)

Tom Heilbron – Innfield Charm (Race 9 – PGR Judgement Night Stayers)

Kevin Hutton – Garfiney Blaze (Race 9 – PGR Judgement Night Stayers)

Towcester crackdown
