With less than a week to go to the closing date for the Sunbets 71st East Anglian Derby (next Thursday), a collection of the best open racers in training are heading to Yarmouth for either trialstakes or preparatory trials.
On Saturday night, the Lister, Janssens and Chalkley team trial a number of Derby hopefuls including Bentekes Bocko, Dorotas Hooligan, Bockos Alfie and Minglers Toure.
Monday features five trialstakes including a reappearance of East Anglian Challenge winner Liam Og and the 2015 Derby winner Do It For Twiggy. However there will probably be as much interest in pre-race trials with both Newinn Shadow (previous 27.57) and Bubbly Bluebird (previous 27.43) due for another spin.
Wednesday trials feature the Gold Cup runner-up Savana Donie and the fastest bitch ever over Henlow’s 460m, Eskes Diamond, plus Peterborough Derby runner-up Kooga Klammer, while Gold Cup finalist Forest Chunk is among Kevin Hutton’s triallers on Thursday.
Assistant RM Ben Mannall said: “We have also just heard that Hiya Butt and Roxholme Will Iam will trial here next Thursday. I have always wanted to see Hiya Butt run at Yarmouth. He was supposed to come here last year, but it didn’t happen. The track record is a bit freakish at 27.17, and down to Fear Zafonic, but if any dog can break it, it is probably Hiya Butt.”
