Daytime Flyer, who sped through July unbeaten, has been voted Greyhound of the Month by the Greyhound Writers’ Association.

The dog landed the Festival Flyer at Sunderland and made his way to the decider of the Northern Sprint at Sheffield during that period and he edged out Select Stakes winner Swift Hoffman in the poll to earn the trophy, which is sponsored by the GBGB.

Currently resting after his exertions that have seen him run up a six-timer and put himself in the reckoning for the Sprinter of the Year award, Daytime Flyer should be back in action in a couple of weeks or so with trainer Peter Wood looking at a possible return to Sheffield to kick him off again.

He says: “The dog has been running for Robert Collins, but his brother Michael, Andrew Aspinall and Yvonne Hunter have also been involved and the group’s becoming a syndicate into whose name he will be transferred.

“It was always my intention to give him a break after the two difficult competitions back to back and when we had him checked out a couple of little niggles were discovered so he’s being given time to get over them and I’ll probably start him up again in a couple of weeks.”
