The Greyhound Stud Book has registered a further 33 litters from late 2019 to take the total number of litters registered for the year (to date) to 198. That equates to 613 dogs and 644 bitches for an average of 6.34 pups per litter. The total for 2018 was 220.
There are some illustrious new mums on the list with the eye being immediately drawn to the 2017 Bitch of the Year Geelo Sapphire who produced two pups by the Greyhound of the Year King Elvis.
It is Sapphire’s second litter. The first, July ’18 whelps are by Candlelight King.
There is another Cat 1 winning dam in Rubys Razzle who produced her first litter by National Sprint winner Trapstyle Jet.
Less well known, but interesting nonetheless is Watchhall Winnie with seven pups by Droopys Roddick. Winnie is a less celebrated littermate to King Elvis, Queen Anna, Queen Adele etc etc.
Among the early 2020 whelps are the royally bred Magical Bale litter out of Irish Oaks winner Forest Natalee.
Her first runner from her Sep’18 litter won first time out. The rest of the litter had their first spins around Swindon on Tuesday and delighted their trainer.
