The final online auction of the year saw Greyhound Trader produce a catalogue full of top class greyhounds including the favourite for the most recent English Greyhound Derby in Ballymac Fairone.
A Jun’19 dog, Fairone is proven at the highest level reaching the finals of the English Derby and Irish Laurels, as well as making the Semi-finals of the Irish Derby. He also produced a phenomenal run during the auction period to come from the back to finish second by just half a length in the Night of Stars AA0 525 at Shelbourne Park.
Ian Fortune commented that ‘He is the most high profile greyhound to go into a public auction since Good News’. Whilst Good News’ reserve was set at a steep £150,000, they probably weren’t too far off with him now being one of the top sires in Ireland in current times.
Bidding got to £20,075 but unfortunately this was nowhere near his reserve of £40,000 and so the greyhound will remain in Tralee for the time being with Liam Dowling. There were subsequent private bids after the auction closed – these started with a ‘3’ but were still not high enough to tempt the vendor to agree a deal. James Corden added “We are still working on behalf of a few clients to see if we can get a deal done this week.”
Also in the auction were English Puppy Derby now Semi-finalists Maturereflection and Enthusiast of Damian Matthews kennel. Just Feb’20 Droopys Sydney brothers, there’s no doubt that the pair of them will be greyhounds competing at the highest level in time to come.
With 17 greyhounds in total, it was disappointing to see none of the greyhounds hit their reserves.
James Corden said “Thank you to all the vendors who have supported us this year and also to those who bid on our platform. We were proud of the calibre of dogs we were able to attract and offer to the public.”
