Greyhound supporters are being urged to sign up to an on-line petition to save Belle Vue Stadium from being turned into a housing estate for 243 dwellings.
An application from Countryside Properties was received in December and locals already secured a claim of for an Asset of Value.
There is also a ‘Friends of Belle Vue Facebook page’ whose aims are summed up as: “We are a group of individuals dedicated in saving Belle Vue Stadium. The stadium is home to a number of flourishing businesses and provides livelihoods for people in the local community and support for supplier businesses across the region. A planning application to develop the site describes the stadium as a brownfield site. It isn’t, it’s home to a cluster of businesses. We are asking for your help in saving this historic site and preventing the loss of jobs in our community.”
