Jimmy Wright, assistant trainer to Angela Harrison, has some reservations about the trap draw for Thursday’s All England Cup Final at Newcastle.
The kennel will supply half the final field in the £10,000 decider including fastest semi final winner and the unbeaten Droopys Expert. The black 4-9f came away in his slowest sectional to date (4.64, following 4.58, 4.54) and was left to chase Irish Laurels winner Skywalker Manner for more than a circuit before getting up to win by a length and a half in 28.23 (N).
Kennelmate Droopys Buick also missed his break and trailed Ashbank Martin to the first bend. Dorotas Vic then took up the lead and Buick ran on for second beaten just over a length.
The third qualifier went to front running favourite Farloe Thor in 28.38. Harrison’s Caislean Fifi ran on to secure the runner-up spot.
Following the draw Jimmy Wright said: “Droopys Expert is unknown out of one which must be a negative. He really wants trap three.
“We originally seeded him in the middle but he kept drawing trap five. We then took the ‘middle’ off him and now he has drawn red. I thought he ran a great race in the semis. I think the dog has been unfairly treated by some of the so called experts on the internet.
“They said he was a ‘bunny dog’ when he ran behind Roxholme Nidge at Sunderland. That is rubbish. He was a pup who caught the leader at the wrong time. If he was a ‘bunny dog’, he couldn’t have run the sort of race he did to win the (All England) semi final.
“My ideal draw would be Buick in three and Expert in four. Caislean Fifi is not without chances if he comes away.
“He is another ideal middle seed who has ended up wider than he might. If we didn’t have Expert in the final, I would be quite happy with Buick drawn in two.”
