Elaine Parker narrowly missed out on sending all six runners through to the final of the Sheffield Stadium Standard on Tuesday night.
Stayer Mexican Peso (Kinloch Brae-Trionas Soprano, Jun 14) and Killacolla View represented the kennel in the 500m opening leg and it was Peso who dominated to win by a length and a half from the other 6-4 joint favourite Flamboyant, trained by Joy Andrews, with View just a length back in third.
But the kennel dominated the other two semis. They had three entries in heat two though it was favourite Candlelight Fire (7-4f) who failed to make the cut. The forecast went to half brothers Lightfoot Mikel (Forest Master-Light Foot Molly, Aug 14) and Light Foot Mata who crossed the line half a length apart. The winner’s time was 28.75 and the SPs were 2-1 and 5-2.
The third heat went to the unrelated evens favourite Coolavanny Gravy (Droopys Scolari-Coolavanny Angie, Jul 13) and Coolavanny Dawn. The winning distance was three and a half lengths and the time, 28.88.
In a separate 12-runner bitch’s event, Mrs Parker also produced a 1-2 with the home bred Russanda Roslea (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Peaches, Apr 14) beating Barnside Chloe by three quarters of a length in 28.85 for 500m. Norman Melbourne’s Yahoo Pearl was third. The three SPs were returned 11-10, 7-2 and 3-1.
The opening qualifier was also dominated by local runners as Barrie Draper’s 1-4f Ballymac Deirdre (Droopys Scolari-Ballymac Razl, Mar 14) led home Swift Burn (7-2) and Geela Jenga (14-1) by three lengths and two and a bit in 28.87
