Roxhome El Dip (Head Bound-Shelbourne Sue)  looks a dog with a big future after impressively landing the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Puppy Standard Trophy Final over 500 metres at Nottingham on Monday writes Jason Craddock.

Hayley Keightley’s August 13 pup, who was beaten in the heats, flew out of the boxes and turned the opening bend just in front of Romeo Arturo. The 6-4 favourite started to pull clear on the third turn and came home four and a half lengths clear of that rival in 30.00sec, the fastest time of the night.

The dog is owned by Hayley and the Dreamboys and one of them Clive Lawrence said afterwards: “He was very green when beaten on his debut and even though he won tonight he is still quite novicy.

“He loves a good dog in the making and hopefully can go on to better things.”

Charlie Lister’s Rafas Wee Pet justified favouritism in the Molston Coors Maiden Trophy final over 480 metres. The 4-5 favourite was soon clear and came home three lengths clear of Rock Me Kewell in 28.81sec.

Kilara Razz was the surprise package in the Betfred.com Standard Trophy heats over 500 metres. David Pruhs’ son of Premier Fantasy led from the opening turn and went on to slam Droopys Fellaini by almost five lengths in a fastest 30.09sec.

Shawfield Puppy Cup winner Vatican Gurkha (evns fav) barged his way through at the first bend in the opening qualifier to beat Evanta Nemo by almost four lengths in 30.20sec.

Track specialist He Got Fame (4-6f) made every metre in the third qualifier to slam Calzaghe Vet by six and a half lengths in 30.27sec.

Scottish Derby winner Swift Hoffman clocked the quickest time in trials before racing over 305 metres.
