Nottingham have been given the go-ahead today to push the semi finals of the PGR Eclipse back a week following the cancellation of last night’s meeting due to heavy rain.
Pre-race trials took place with the going rated at -70 for the 500m course but the local stewards declared the track unsafe prior to the first race.
ARC Spokesman Dave Baldwin said: “We are all still set to go at five o’clock but it just got heavier. Nobody wants to call these meetings off but we had to do so in the best interests of welfare.
“Delaying the semi finals a week isn’t ideal, but it still looks the best option despite the clash with the Olympic.”
In fact, putting the Eclipse Final back to December 5th has clashed with two more Cat One events. The British Bred Derby at Sheffield is due to get underway the following night, though Signet Goofy might be the only runner inconvenienced should he make the Nottingham Final.
The bigger problem is the clash with the Coral Olympic which will commence at Hove two days earlier (Saturday December 3)
