Recent Easter Cup winner Colarhouse Gerry broke a hock in qualifying trials at Towcester earlier today. Purchased by Mark Lowther and now with Derek Law the dog broke down at the afternoon session.
A distressed Derek Law said: “We are absolutely gutted it happened at the second bend but then he ran a full lap and jumped into the middle of the track. I would like to thank Paul Young who immediately offered to carry the dog off the track. I would also like to thank the track vet who did an excellent job of patching him up. She also gave him a couple of strong pain killers to get him through to tomorrow when he can be X-rayed and we can work out the best form of treatment.
“I was looking at the leg before it was strapped up and the two hocks side by side looked quite straight so we are hopeful. This is not a yard that ever has its dogs put to sleep. Mark has a house full of retired dogs and not so long ago paid for a £10,000 operation on an eight year old bitch to restore her sight. That says everything about the man.
“The other thing that I found very touching was the number of old dog men who have already been in touch to say, ‘heard about the dog Derek, don’t worry if you can’t cope, because of your age. Send the dog to us and we will get him through his convalescence’. Top men.”
