“I am not sure who will win it, in fact I am not even sure who will start as favourite”
Yarmouth assistant Ben Mannall believes the trap draw for Wednesday’s 70th East Anglian Derby Final was difficult enough before the trap trap was made – it then became more difficult. The semis went as follows.
First semi: Charlie Lister’s Old Joe Golden (T6) went off as 2-1f, but was never at the races. The all-the-way winner was Paul Young’s Bubbly Turbo (T3 4-1) who held off Clondoty Alex (T2 4-1) and Ballinclare Solo (T5 4-1) by half a length and two in 27.65.
Second semi final: Went the way of the slow breaking Bockos Alfie (T1 5-4f) who made the most of an empty trap to lead at the first bend and finish three clear of Ballymac Cathal (T5 6-1) and Ajlo Legalbeagle (T6 7-4). The winner clocked 27.85.
Mannall said: “It is a strange trap draw. We think Bubbly Turbo might have been better off in the middle where he seems to trap very well and the three wanted the red. Bockos Alfie rails well but then struggles at the second bend. If I had to choose a winner, I think I would go for Ajlo Legalbeagle who can get a clear run on the outside.”
