Derby winning breeder Dave Firmager has revealed the identity of the pup that he has donated to the GOSH Charity Golf Day Auction which will take place at the Stamford Abbotts Golf Course on Wednesday September 14.
Romeo Dynamo is a 77lb black son of Ireland’s no.1 sire Droopys Sydney out of Fabulous Nigella. The dam was lightly raced but is a daughter of Coolavanny Pearl, the mother of Clona Blaze, Newinn Session, Newinn Jacko, Doolin Duke and Newinn Liz. Two of Dynamo’s litter mates, Romeo Rapido and Somersham Snowy have already raced and have four wins from their five combined outings with Rapido clocking 29.03 on debut at Clonmel.
Dave Firmager said: “I am not expecting Dynamo to be a Derby dog but I think he should be decent enough. So I hope he makes decent money but not silly money.
“I realise that some people will think, ‘if the dog was any good he wouldn’t be letting him go’ but that isn’t true. I am fortunate enough to be in a position where I only want to keep Derby dogs. Like every other breeder, I know that the vast majority won’t be able to compete at the very highest level but they can still make someone a decent open racer.
“We had a situation at the last Towcester sale where I had £5,000 reserves on some of the young dog and didn’t get a bit. One of them, Romeo Sportstar, who is also a Jan 21 won last Sunday at Towcester in 29.67. I don’t think that makes him an expensive dog.”
In the meantime all eyes are on Romeo Magico who runs in the Irish Derby second round on Friday and sister Fabulous Azurra who will start favourite to win the BGBF British Bred Oaks at Henlow on Sunday.
Dave said: “Magico was always fast but he didn’t have the maturity to go with it when he was younger. Graham (Holland) has always said that from winning line to the third bend, he is as fast as he has ever had. He has done virtually nothing since the English Derby and I thought he ran a brilliant race last week. I won’t lie, I would be disappointed if he doesn’t win on Friday, but whether he does or not, he is in the best possible hands.
“As for Azurra, it is just great to see her back in decent form after overcoming a cracked hock.”
