Graham Holland landed the Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne and the Limerick Oaks but missed out in the Gain 600 decider at the same meeting.
The Golden based trainer had four of the six finalists in the €7,000 to winner Shelbourne puppy race including favourite Ballinakil Clare. But it was the Holland 5-2 second string Sidarian Pearl (Vans Escalade-Rockburst Pearl, Jun 14) who led up from Airmount Tess and Holycross Leah after Clare missed her break.
The Sidarian Syndicare owned runner pulled further clear and completed an unbeaten run through the stake with a six length win in 28.21.
Holland missed out in the most lucrative race of the weekend when Tom O’Neill’s Ballyhooly Henry (Tyrur Big Mike-Lemon Soul, May 13) produced another sublime performance in the €15,000 Gain 600 final.
Unbeaten in the event with wins in 32.89 and 32.38, the 4-7f was led up by Holland’s Hovex Blaze but ‘untook’ the leader who stayed wide at the first bend.
From then on the race was never in doubt with Henry extending his winning lead to four and a half lengths from Blaze in his fastest time to date, 32.24.
Meanwhile at Limerick, Holland was doubly represented in the Oaks decider where his Sidarian Nell when to traps as the even money favourite.
But it was kennelmate Rural Maui (Head Bound-Duck Fat, May 13) who absolutely dominated the decider after rocketing clear from trap six.
She was pursued by Elusive Maiden but the hugely impressive leader extended her advantage to five lengths and gave an inch back.
She crossed the winning line in 28.37 for the 480 metres to earn Helen and Michael O’Dwyer a €4,000 first prize.
Graham Holland said: “It was a good night, particularly at Shelbourne where we also won a €1,000 for Larry O’Rourke with Riverside Oscar and the (30.65 575yd track record) run by Milldean Puma.
“I had felt a bit under pressure in the Puppy Oaks with four runners in it. When the draw was made I thought Clare was drawn on the wrong side of Pearl and might have hampered her if she had trapped better, but Pearl trapped and Clare didn’t.
“I thought Blaze ran his race in the 600 final, but Ballyhooly Henry was on a level of his own and the result was no surprise.
“I thought Maui was overdue a big win and she had a great chance when our other runner in six (Sidarian Nell) missed her break.
“The added bonus is that both winners of the bitches races were born here. We trained Sidarian Pearl’s mum Rockburst Pearl and we reared the pups here until about four or five months.
“Ian McGuinness had originally sourced Rockburst Pearl for the Sidarian Syndicate and Ian was given the daughter when she was a pup. As she developed into a decent bitch, the syndicate then bought her back off Ian.
“We also trained Rural Maui’s dam Duck Fat and I agreed to rear some pups on a ‘one for one’ for Helen and Michael. My two dogs were okay, but Helen ended up with Maui and litter brother Rural Hawaii.”
