Shutthe Backdoor clocked the quickest time in the semi-finals of the Red Mills Champion Open Unraced Stake over 525 yards at Kilkenny on Friday.
Brendan Matthews’s recent intake got first crack at the leader Sword Fern and went on to beat the favourite Skilful Legend by a length and a half in 29.08sec.
Material Man looked impressive in the opening qualifier. Murt Leahy’s runner was stone last at the opening turn and also in trouble but he recovered well to come flying through and eventually beat Derryhogan Flame by half a length in 29.30sec.
