Henlow’s Joint Racing Manager Martin Race thinks the bookies have it wrong for the final of the track’s Puppy Derby next Sunday.

The layers have priced up Droopys Cannon as the 6-4 favourite followed by Bockos Doomie at 13-8 (6-1 Dower Product, 13-2 Perrys Choice, 14-1 Dress Code, 50-1 Headford Danny).

Race said: “In my opinion, it was a decent draw for Doomie but a very bad one (T5) for Droopys Cannon. Dean Childs’ dog looks as though he is desperate for the inside and he almost looked as though he was waiting for a chance to get to the rail in winning his heat. Which is why his time was a bit slower than expected.”

Doomie clocked 29.32 coming from behind and may have to once again follow Perry Choice in the early stages of Sunday’s race.

Race said: “I think it will be the backstraight before Doomie can get past Perrys Choice, but Patrick’s dog looks very special in my opinion. I like Droopys Product and if this final was on his home track, I think he would have a favourite’s chance.

“This looks too tough a trip for Droopys Code and although Headford Danny looks a nice young dog, he looks a bit up against it in this company.”
