In an interview with Patrick Janssens earlier this week, the Belgian admitted to being “really excited” about a young dog about to make his debut at Hove writes Floyd Amphlett.

Because the pup was considered too young to contest this year’s Derby, we didn’t include it in the piece about Patrick’s likely entries. Pity. Because on Thursday night, the debutant Bockos Doomie (Droopys Jet-Dalcash Kalade, Sep 17) romped up by nearly six lengths in 30.14 (-10) for the 515 metres.

The fastest time of the night was kennelmate Desperado Dan in 29.98 (-10). The Coronation Cup winner will be heading to Colwick Park, the youngster will be targeted at puppy competitions.

**Janssens’ Kilmore Lemon clocked a flying 16.03 (-05) solo before racing for the Hove 285 metres.

On the subject of youngsters, John Mullins had another “bonus win” with British bred Saving Sonic (Kinloch Brae-Newinn This Way, Jul 17).

The ‘bonus’ element is in the pup’s history. Back in the autumn of 2017, John and wife Debbie were due to take delivery of a litter of young pups, of which unfortunately only one bitch pup survived. Faced with the unwelcome prospect of trying to rear one pup on her own, John bought the Newinn The Way litter from Paula Hendy.

In addition to Sonic, Saving Face and Saving Mullpark have both won opens for John, while Goldies Allen has an open win for Patrick Janssens. Another sister Saving Martha has sub-28.00 form at Yarmouth while Saving Amelia is A5.

As for the original ‘loner’, the cleverly named Saving Grace is making her six bend debut in the George Ing St.Leger on Monday.

The other Mullins Hove winner was the Ian Greaves bred Swift Biscuit who joined Droopys Gold and Coolavanny Dylan on the ‘9 win mark’ for 2019.
