Doncaster’s Mick Smith has ‘lined up his ducks’ roughly 150 of them, and is ready to join the BAGS circus on May 6.
The Yorkshire track have four months worth of BAGS fixtures: every Wednesday night – 11 races, 6.33pm-9.17pm and the widely experienced grader (ex-Catford, Wembley plus a couple of tracks that haven’t closed!) has prepared immaculately.
He said: “We have 150 dogs available so will be dropping our Friday meetings for those four months. We also have another meeting at the end of September.
“Obviously it is difficult to make long term plans so such a short trial, but I know we can provide an interesting and professional service.
“Prize money is being raised by £10 per runner to £25 for all the BAGS dogs, with those who race on the Saturday meeting benefiting by an extra fiver per dog.
“We will be predominantly racing over the 483 metres with a few 450 metre races and the occasional sprint. I lowered the grading time for the 450m a few months ago to attract a few more runners.
“We have mainly small kennels here; Jane Houfton and Steve Anderson have the largest kennel strengths with around 15 runners each.”
