Trainer Graham Holland has very mixed views about Saturday night’s Star Sports & ARC Greyhound Derby semi final draws.
He said: “I am very happy with the draw for Valor. The one, who ran very well on Saturday, should lead us on the inside, and we can tuck in behind him. Though I do think Knocknaboul Syd has enough early to be in front as they get to the bend. In my view, the inside is the best place to be at Nottingham at the first bend. On the outside you could get knocked sideways like a skittle.
“As far as Wolfe is concerned, I am not going to open my eyes until I think they’ve reached the third bend. The draw is a disaster for him with Deerjet Sydney in four and certain to cut straight across at the traps. That isn’t a criticism of Pat’s dog, he is a top class performer and we all love that type in the kennel. But it is a nightmare for anything drawn on his inside from that draw.
“I think Wolfe can lead up the bitch on the inside. She showed some decent early in the quarter final, though she looked as though she was distracted on the run in.
“I think Wolfe is a genuine top class Derby dog and would fancy his chances against any other dog still in it, in a two dog trial (unless he was drawn inside Deerjet Sydney). But at this stage, I am just hoping he can avoid a disaster and make the first three.”
