How to read the table. Each of the 48 qualifiers has their two previous performances broken into three sections. The most recent run is on top (in bold type) and the races are broken into three sections: the clocking to halfway, the clocking from halfway, and the combined total. As an example, Antigua Cuddles clocked 15.75 to halfway in the second round, which was 19 spots quicker than her first round run. She was 25 spots quicker from halfway, accounting for an overall improvement of 44 spots.

All times are ‘actual’ with the light blue shading representing going on -10 and the six darker blue shaded runners, ran in races rated at -20.

Of the 48 qualifiers in last weekend’s Derby second round, 18 improved on their first round time. Of the 30 who went slower, only Deelish Frankie’s (7 spots) can be blamed on slow going. Ballinabola Ed (-10) clocked an identical calculated time.

To halfway – the most improved was Romeo Magico who found 51 spots, followed by Kildare (26) and Romeo Tilt/Swift Iconic (21). No surprise – to anyone who saw the race – that the dog who lost the most time to halfway was Lautaro.

From halfway, the most improved runner was Coppice Fox (57) followed by Narcos The Great (37) and Thorn Falcon (36). The ‘biggest loser’ in the second half was Global Vision (38) followed by Cape Cloud/Derrinasafa Boss (30).

The dog finding the most time between the two rounds was Coppice Fox (68) followed by Romeo Magico (55) and Kildare (54). The biggest time loser was track record holder Lautaro who survived to race another day despite losing almost ten lengths (78 spots). He was closely followed by Faughan Rebel (64) and Bockos Viera (54).

Another interesting stat – following the whinging about going allowances. Four of the nine most consistent runners – with 10 spots or less difference between their times across the two rounds – ran in races rated ‘slow’ on Friday. Remember – these are actual times, not manipulated by going allowances.
