It wouldn’t have been too big a punt to guess that Magical Bale would be quickest to halfway and Skywalker Logan would dominate the ‘from halfway’ times in last Saturday’s Star Sports/ARC/LPS Greyhound Derby semi final times.
According to Mark Pierrepont’s computer calculated times, Bale was roughly three quarters of a length faster than Derby second favourite Clonbrien Prince to the halfway mark, though Graham Holland’s runner was just over a length quicker from halfway to home. From halfway, Bale’s half brother Skywalker Logan takes a minimum two lengths out of the field.
Interestingly, compare the top two in the betting based on their best ‘second half’ times and they dead-heat.
With no runner improving on their previous best times – the fantasy list still has the order of finish – based on best combined as 1) Skywalker Logan 29.05, 2) Magical Bale 29.14, 3) Clonbrien Prince 29.19, 4) Droopys Expert 29.33, 5) Priceless Blake 29.41, 6) Ballymac Tas 29.43.
And out of interest, the finalists based on the best times recorded in the competition would have read: Skywalker Logan, Droopys Verve, Magical Bale, Clonbrien Prince, Queen Beyonce, Dorotas Wildcat
