With a 6-1 Derby winner, and just one outright winning favourite on the 15 race card, Derby Final night went firmly in favour of the bookies.

In terms of outstanding performances, it would be hard to split Trickys Dumbo in the puppy final and Forest Jason in the JPW Trophy.

Robert Holt’s  August whelp Trickys Dumbo was only 11 spots slower than the Derby winner when taking the £3,000 juvenile decider, while Forest demolished the opposition in the 480 metre decider.

The 680 metre stayers decider lived up to its hype of being the most competitive race on the card while the Derby Plate produced the night’s biggest turn up with 25-1 winners Wildfire Jimmy.

The darkest spot on an otherwise top class night of racing was the apparent career ending injury for Slippy Maggie.
