Owners and trainers can expect a decision within a fortnight as to whether this year’s English Derby will take place at Nottingham.
GBGB trainers representative Peter Harnden said: “I was approached by someone representing a large group of trainers, probably 14 or 15 of the bigger names in the sport, who are concerned whether the Derby would be run.
“There is no Board meeting for another month so I approached Mark Bird directly. He has confirmed that a decision will be made within the next two weeks. If Nottingham decide not to go ahead, we will then go back to the Board to decide whether to invite the remaining tracks to see if they would consider running it.”
The Star understands that the general consensus among the trainers is for the event to get underway in mid to late July – presumably behind ‘closed doors’.
