The BGBF wanted to honour both the contribution of Nick Savva to British Breeding and also to his sadly departed wife Natalie writes Mark Pierrepont.
As such the Westmead Legacy In Memory Of Natalie Savva came about and 18 of the leading British Bred greyhounds lined up for 3 first round heats. Acomb Jenny who recently went unbeaten throughout the BGBF Maiden competition at Newcastle showed that this is a bitch heading firmly in the right direction when landing heat 1 for trainer Kevin Ferguson in 29.85.
Robert Smith’s English Derby quarter finalist Amka Rofe was just 1/2 length behind and both greyhounds go forward to next week’s final. Heat 2 saw a sensational performance from Kevin Hutton’s Boca Junior who landed his race in 29.63 with 2 lengths back to Liz McNair’s King Axle
The third qualifier saw Kevin Ferguson land a double as his Produce Stakes finalist Acomb Winston overcame early crowding to stop the clock in 3001 with 1/2 length back to Mark Wallis’s Agincourt Xena.
