Savanna Beau – Bred by Graham Holland and a product of two former kennel stars. Slippery Thelma just missed out on a place in the 2016 Irish Puppy Oaks Final, though sister Slippery Louise made it through. Thelma also won a heat of the following Irish Oaks beating Ravenna (Priceless Jat) by five lengths. By far the most interesting aspect of Beau’s pedigree is his dam line, tracing through Larry Dunne’s 2008 Puppy Oaks winner Kildallon Maid. Maid’s progeny included the brilliant Ballydoyle Honey, Samiya (dam of Da Head Hunter, Duke De Janerio) and Fear Emoski who won the Regency and Doncaster Leger and whose progeny include Bo Shine Bullet and the 2020 English Derby runner-up Ballydoyle Valour.
Kildare – is from Palermo’s first litter which includes 18.47 Shelbourne sprint winner Gaa Gaa Carla. Palermo only raced once. Having qualified in 28.55 at Newbridge at 19 months old, she finished down the field when 4-5jf with Unlock Unlock in an unraced bitch stake. Lots of interest in the pedigree, most notably a 3 x 3 doubling up of Derby winner Westmead Hawk in the pedigree through his Derby winning son, Taylors Sky. If you were looking for any more blue blood, check out Allen Harbour. When she was mated to Zero Ten, she produced the former Carol Grasso trained open racer Jet Stream Lynx, better known now of course as the dam of Susie Sapphire.
Hello Hammond – a black dog, born to be a Kilkenny blackcat with both paretns trained by Paul Hennessy, his dad being of course the 2016 English Derby and Easter Cup winner Jaytee Jet. Hammond is probably his best offspring though he has also thrown sprint track record breaker Freedom Whiskey. Pearl was decent enough and boasted a career best 28.54 at Shelbourne. She is from Jim Quinlan’s tough-as-teak ‘Bull Run’ dam line. To Ballymac Ekse, Java threw Juvenile /Three Steps winner, Bull Run Button. To Romeo Recruit she threw Oaks winner Bull Run Byte. To Mall Brandy she threw Monmore Puppy Derby winner Priceless Brandy and to Bull Run Bolt she threw Kilkenny Champion Unraced winner Bull Run Norris. Pearl’s latest litter include 17 month old Ballymac Run who recently clocked 28.25 at Tralee.
Romeo Magico – the background to Magico’s breeding can be found here
Mickys Barrett – represents complete diversity of breeding. His sire was a Silver Chief winner in Australia and is certainly proving versatile with progeny Callmesteve amd Burgess Hannah on the supporting card. Grandsire Fernando Bale was possibly the best Aussie racer of his generation, but was by American racer Kelsos Fusilier who had an Irish dam. Newinn Wonder won an Irish Cup on the coursing field while Skywalker Queen won an Oaks and Dundalk International on the track while her dam Nifty Princess was a half sister to Premier Fantasy.
Priceless Jet – and litter brother Epic Hero (29.19 550 Shelbourne) are sons of the former multi time champion sire Droopys Jet who headed the market to win two English Derbys but could get no closer than fifth (7-4f) to Sidaz Jack in the 2013 final. Dam Ravenna is an Aussie bred who won only four of 26 races though they did include a 32.56 for 600 at Shelbourne. Sweet Shadow, who won in fast times at The Meadows and Sandown in Aus, is a daughter of the strong finishing Irish Derby winner and Shelbourne 550 yard record breaker College Causeway from prolific Australian dam line.
