Local hero Links Maverick completed his domination of the ARC Northern Puppy Derby and gave trainer Tom Heilbron a night he will never forget.

Backed down to 4-7f, Maverick was loaded into trap two having won his last six outings . .

Maverick’s victory saw the kennel retain the title which they picked up last year with Freedom Alibi and was the centrepiece of a fabulous night for Team Heilbron. They arrived with a dozen runners and returned home with six wins and two seconds including five open race victories.

The most impressive on the undercard was Darbys Delight who was made the 4-5f in a 640 open featuring Coolavanny Aunty. The powerful black duly justified those odds after catching the Greyhound of the Year in the latter stages and going on to win by just under three lengths in 38.77, the fastest time over course and distance in almost 18 months. That is four in a row for the Summer Stayers Classic runner-up.

The five-timer was completed by Dubh Gasta (9-4), Ballymac Moment (5-4) and Anynamewilldo (11-1) with Osgood Sogood (8-1) in the A1.
