Trionas Travel maintained his unbeaten Perry Barr record when winning for the fifth time at Perry Barr in the semi finals of the ARC Laurels writes Floyd Amphlett.
Mark and Ernie Skeech’s black was led for most of the contest before picking up Headford Flash in 28.12. The other qualifiers went to Signet Denver (28.31) and Aussie Captain (28.35). The times of the finalists is a great testament to the consistency of the hounds, and also the Perry Barr track staff.
Five of the six finalists are from hugely successful Towcester attached kennels. The sixth and likely favourite is handled by the father and son team from Lancashire.
Racing Manager Martin Seal said: “It really is a case of David (s) v Goliath in the final. Whatever the result of the final, Mark and Ernie have really got a tune out of this dog. It isn’t just Travel’s speed that impresses me, it is his track craft too.
“Last night he missed his break but waited until he was clear of trouble before moving off. Similarly, when he caught Headford Flash – who isn’t the widest runner you’ve ever seen – he didn’t attempt to go around the outside, but waited for the gap to appear and zoomed through on the inside.
“It is a very very high class final and I am delighted with the whole competition.”
