Dave Firmager landed both TV Trophy qualifiers at Towcester and exposed the openness of the forthcoming event.
With marathon queen Roxholme Magic in season, most eyes were on Lord Hesketh’s Ribble Atom in the tougher of Tuesday 906m night’s qualifiers.
With two non-runners, including her old nemesis, It should all have been a simple task for Mark Wallis’ 1-4f to push her name to the forefront of the event.
Instead, she made a hash of the break, found herself in third spot behind Lemon Lyric after a circuit and then saw 4-1 shot Fabulous Landing (Crash-Fabulous Verity, Aug 13) take the lead and pull away for a six and a half length win in 56.77 (-60).
Earlier, Firmager’s evens favourite Fabulous Model (Modern Assassin-Fabulous Fashion, Apr 13) had easily won a very moderate event by just over five lengths in 57.35 (-60).
The £8,000 event, which closes next Tuesday and gets underway on in 10 days time, appears at the mercy of reigning champ Ballymac Bonnie who skated up by nearly nine lengths in a 900 yard open on the International supporting card at Dundalk setting a new track record of 49.82. She won last year’s Towcester final in 55.44.
