Chelms Cub who recently landed the Hunt Cup at Towcester added further category one success to his CV by taking the Bet365 Challenge Cup Final last night at Oxford. Cub had popped out nicely but was tapped for early and middle by the pacesetting Antigua Sugar trained by Mark Wallis. Come the run in though Cub began to reel in the long time leader getting up by a length in 4008 on a track rated 30 slow. The Jason Heath trained , Steve Eason and Matthew Hughes owned star rounded off what has been a magnificent year having also reached the finals of the Regency , Summer Classic and St Leger. A delighted Jason Heath said “Chelms cub ran his heart out for us last night and to reach five cat 1 finals and win two is a massive achievement for him and the kennel. I’d like to thank Kevin boothby and everyone connected to oxford stadium for a great night and the running surface was perfect. When I came off the track the first two people to congratulate me were mark Wallis and nic Jeal sportsmanship at its best. He will run at Monmore next week in a 630 invitation race then will have the rest of the winter off”.
