Shelbourne boss Patrick Flynn is hoping to make it seven out of eight successful nights on Saturday with the final of the Boylesports Irish Derby.
He said: “There are eight meetings in total and six of the first seven are up on last year, which wasn’t by any means a bad year anyway. And we are talking increases in attendance, tote and bookmaker turnover.
“I don’t know what the crowds will be like on Saturday. We put the Derby back a week to avoid the Champions Weekend with the horses and now clash with an All-Ireland Final. While we may benefit from having more people in the city, it might put off some of the British greyhound people trying to find accommodation.
“Overall it has been an exciting Derby which is very pleasing for the sponsors who are very pro-active in promoting the event. John Boyle (Boylesports) is very hands on and a genuine greyhound enthusiast. He is usually out there in the crowd enjoying the racing.”
