Sheffield’s venue director Dave Perry has confirmed that the stadium has been given the go-ahead to allow the public to attend as they welcome back Friday night crowds, in addition to Saturdays.

He said: “We were awaiting clarification, but we are already working to a limit of six people per booking, which is in line with Government instruction though we needed to run it past the local council before confirming.

“Last Saturday was a great success and we will be opening with a 10 race card on Fridays starting next week – the 18th.”

The decision to run the Gain Greyhound Nutrition Three Steps To Victory was originally dependent on there being crowds allowed into the stadium.

With all those doubts out of the way, the racing office are bracing themselves for a bumper entry for the 36 runner tri-distance event worth £10,000 to the winner. The first round is on Tuesday with entries closing at noon tomorrow (Friday). There were 26 entries booked by early this morning though racing manager Richard Munton is anticipating a last minute deluge. There were 72 entries last year.

Among the impressive recent trialists were Velvet Juliet and Coolavanny Combo. Patrick Janssens had Seaglass Sabrina and Lenson Austin trialling today. Among those already entered are Monmore quartet Southfield Code, Kingsbrook Glynn, Daddys Prince and Ballymac Saga.
