Racing returned to Crayford on Friday night and much to the delight of the management – there was nothing to report.
A check through the results shows dogs winning from all traps with times reasonably on par. Basically, no bedding-down period was required despite a complete £250,000 renovation of the circuit.
Dave Stevens, assistant trainer to brother Ian said: “We think it has been a huge success. Ian thinks the track is slightly more heavily cambered which seems to help the dogs get around the bend. It ran very well. We had one runner come off sore but she had been struggling with niggles for a while. She had over 100 races on her card and was retired; nothing to do with the track.”
Head of Stadia Richard Brankley said: “We were hoping to keep things very low key and all appears to have gone to plan. I would like to thank Jason Begg and his team for a great job, working through the extremes of the heat, and to John Haynes for all his input. The circuit is just part of a continued investment from Ladbrokes with new traps, a new tractor, new kennel doors and of course, a significant increase in prize money.”
