Ladbrokes have clarified the position relating to a rumour currently circulating the internet and concerning the euthanasia of two greyhounds at a recent trial meeting.
Stadium controller Richard Brankley responded:
“There were two injuries at trials before racing on Tuesday from a hurdle collision and to a dog returning from lameness. It is always a difficult decision and last resort for a trainer and owner. The veterinarian directive at Crayford is that such a decision is made only when it is the humane course of action for the greyhound. A position fully supported by trainers. Fortunately such instances are rare but nonetheless distressing for all concerned.”
*Furthermore, the Star has investigated a further report suggesting that the two fatalities were in addition to a backlog of other recent fatalities at the stadium. We are satisfied that these rumours are entirely false and almost certainly malicious. They appear to have been circulated with minimal attempts to verify their accuracy. We invite anyone with evidence to the contrary to contact us with the identities of said greyhounds.
