Droopys Cortez, runner-up in last year’s Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle, looks as though he could be ready to make up for lost time after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The November 2012 son of Aero Majestic and Droopys Safina missed the first couple of months of the campaign with injury and was on the easy list again after just one in March, but trainer Barrie Draper has been carefully putting him through his paces in trials at Sheffield and after four sprint spins the dog put in a 28.61 (+20) run over the 500 metres on Friday, indicating a return to the track is not too far away.
