The Coral Romford Puppy Cup gets underway this evening at the Essex venue over the 400 metres. David Mullins is looking to win this competition for the seventh time and a remarkable fifth time in a row having been successful with Tenpin, Brookside Richie, Romeo Hotshot and Romeo Crusade in the last four years.
Mullins was the latest guest on the Gone To The Dogs Podcast.
Fire and Ice heads the market at 2/1 with the sponsors Coral, Untold Rufiyaa and Newinn Souly are 6/1, Easy Player 8/1 and 10/1 bar. I’ve got two each way selections against the field here both at workmanlike prices.
Droopys Maybe – 16/1 E/W (Coral)
My first selection is going to be Droopys Maybe at 16/1. She is a bitch at the top of her game over four and six bends at Romford and although she wouldn’t be the fastest in the competition, she very rarely runs a bad race so a nice make up in round one from trap one can safely see her through to next weeks semi-final where you are hoping for a bit of luck with the draw. Runs over 575m beating the likes of Bockos Thunder are solid lines of form and ran a huge race in behind ante post favourite Fire And Ice in a trial stakes last week when clocking 23.98 in defeat so she looks a solid each way bet at 16/1.
Gingers Prince – 33/1 E/W (Coral)
My second selection is Gingers Prince available at 33/1 with the sponsors Coral. He ran well enough on UK debut last week staying on to finish third in a maiden and can improve for that race. He’s in a heat that wouldn’t be the strongest on paper so has every chance of getting off the mark this evening. Worse case, he can finish in the first three to qualify for next week. His trial beating Call It Off in 24.17 was a good run especially with the latter clocking a 24.09 trial last week so improvement is expected from Gingers Prince and 33/1 looks a fair each way bet.
