Patriot quickest – Breeze still unbeaten, and just three spots slower – Diego Flight the biggest casualty.
The three main talking points of the first round of the Coral Regency at Hove on Thursday evening where Paul Hennessy’s Jaytee Patriot, eliminated in the Leger semis and beaten in the Golden Jacket Final, began his third raid on a British ‘Cat 1’ event.
The big striding black pinged the lids and made every stride in the last heat to clock 41.36 for the 685 metres, the fastest time of the year. Though that won’t faze the connections of new staying star Aayamza Breeze who impressively took her winning tally to an unbeaten three and clocked 41.39 despite having to overcome early adversity.
The elimination of Diego Flight and Fizzypop Buddy, who led but appeared to develop a problem in the fourth heat, was the night’s biggest surprise along with the earlier defeat of the strongly fancied Huarache Madison.
