Farneys Cookie gave trainer Kevin Boon his third Category One race when successful in the Pinpoint Three Steps To Victory over 660 metres at Sheffield on Tuesday writes Jason Craddock.

In what turned out to be a scrappy renewal, it was the Sheffield duo Droopys Knox and Russanda Brax who cut out the early running but Farneys Cookie was never far behind and led off the last turn to beat Russanda Brax by half a length in 39.29sec. Roxholme Dream ran on late for third.

Boon said afterwards: “We’ve had a terrific three or four week sat Sheffield. He’s done it the hard way, falling out the boxes and somehow got around the outside. I thought he may get picked up when he led off the last but he dug deep.

“That’s four on the bounce and he’s better since I moved him to a bigger galloping track.

“We’ll probably run him in the Arc at Swindon next.

“This dog was scatter brain when we first got him but he’s settled now and is absolutely flying.”

Swift Whirlwind made it six wins from eight races in the Pinpoint Puppy Trophy over 480 metres.

Paradise Cuba was one of the gambles of the day (6-1 to 2-1) but was left flatfooted at the traps.

Mark Wallis’s Swift Whirlwind flew out of the boxes and made the first bend in front of local runner Glenpadden Lord and went on to score by a length and a half in 27.48sec the second fastest time of the year.

Wallis said afterwards: “The dog has been winning for fun lately and we’ll run him in the Derby at Wimbledon.

“Longer term I think he will make up into a useful stayer.”

Walshes Hill returned to form to land the Evening With AP McCoy @ Elland Road Sprint over 280 metres.

Jimmy Wright’s runner led from the first turn and went on to beat Conna Trigger by three quarters of a length in 15.73sec.

Wright said: “Walshes Hill never flies the lids here at Sheffield but showed his class here to beat a quality field.

“He lost his way for a few weeks but is back to his best now.”

Calco Flyer made it three winners on the night for Mark Wallis in the Winning Lines British Bred Stakes over 500 metres.

The son of Blonde Snapper followed the pace-maker Klockwork Kannon through and led at the third turn to hold the late challenge of Lowgate Onyx by a length and a half in 28.62sec.

Wallis said: “The Calco Syndicate is a group of 24 golfers and they get a great buzz from seeing this dog run.”

Pinpoint Finas justified 1-2 favouritism in the Total Recycling Veteran Trophy over 480 metres.

Kelly Macari’s runner flashed out and pulled clear from the opening turn to score a near four length victory in 27.62sec.

Macari said afterwards: “It’s great to get a winner for Alan, and the dog is named after his son. This dog was laid up for a while over the winter but has come back well.”

Billys Bullet made it four wins for Mark Wallis in the Pinpoint Healthcare now in Aberdeen & Leeds Stayers Stakes over 660 metres.

The son of Ace Hi Rumble, the 10-11 favourite, was led to the penultimate turn by Lowgate Jasper but swept past and went on to hold Dinzeo by a length and a quarter in a track record time of 38.29sec.

Wallis said: “This is my favourite dog at present and he’s winning for fun. Four winners on the night have quickly banished the memories of Sittingbourne where we narrowly lost of the Trainers Championship.

“Billy Bullet could now go for the Regency at Hove.”

Making Paper was yet another favourite to win in the Total Recycling Services Trophy over 480 metres.

Diane Henry’s runner started stone last but forced his way into second by the second turn and caught long-time leader Ballymac Vickson on the third turn to score by two and a half lengths in 27.51sec.

Henry said afterwards: “He always fluffs the start but has great early pace and awesome middle pace. If we can get him to start he would be very special. We will try him in the Derby and give him a few minor opens at Wimbledon.”

Viking Jack is 50-1 to win the English Derby after winning the William Hill Win and You’re In Trial Stakes over 480 metres.

Pinpoint Maxi led but Viking Jack got a lovely run around the outside to lead off the third turn and beat Droopys Ward by a length and a half in 27.48sec.

Jim Hayton said afterwards: “He started better and got a great pitch around the turn. He’ll take his chance at Wimbledon.”

Touch Tackle justified 2-5 favouritism in the Pinpoint Super Stayers Trophy over 720 metres.

Jim Daly’s runner pulled clear from the penultimate turn to slam Droopys Gonza by just over seven lengths in 42.38sec, the second fastest time ever.

Mark Wallis’s Aayamzamodel led early in the Pinpoint Bitches Stakes to beat Swift Champagne by just over two lengths in 28.81sec.
