Riverside Breda was a surprise winner of the Stadium Bookmakers Sprint Trophy over 305 metres at Nottingham last night.
Richard Devenish’s runner was led to the turn by Charlie Lister’s Tiermana Power, the 5-4 favourite, but she outpaced that rivals round the bends and came home a length and a quarter to the good in 18.01sec (-20).
Assistant trainer Dilys Steels said: “She likes it at Nottingham as she won here in the Trainers Championship Final before Christmas.
“The bitch is running out of her skin, has won four of her last seven and been second in the others races so deserved to win a decent final.”
Devenish had a double with Romany Rouge who came home strongly in the 500 metre puppy contest to beat Well Refreshed by two and a half lengths in 30.30sec.
Steels said: “500 metres suited him better this week and he kept himself out of trouble and powered home. We’ll start thinking about the Monmore Puppy Derby with him soon.”
