Romeo Command produced the second fastest time ever recorded over Nottingham’s 500m course when landing the final heat of the BGBF British Breeder Stakes on Monday night.
The Dave Firmager owned and bred brindle was seven spots outside Skywalker Logan’s track record set in May 2019 as he beat cousin Signet Otis by almost five lengths (Command’s sire and Otis’ dam are brother and sister) in 29.12.
Out of interest, we asked Mark Pierrepont to run his digital ‘halfway’ timings to the identical spot to Logan’s record breaking run and Logan edged it by three spots (14.72 v 14.75). Otis clocked 14.90 with Nadal in third (15.45).
The heats got underway with a victory for Acomb Alfie (14.82) over Command’s litter brother Romeo Top Cat (15.04) with the unfortunate Shockwave Ruby going lame off the second bend. The winner clocked 29.60 with Wolf Moon (15.26) in third.
John Mullins’ Jaffa (14.89) the only pup still in the event led at the first turn before beating Sleek By Design (15.18) and Singalong Java (15.00) in 29.85. Fabulous Heather went amiss shortly after leaving the traps.
While the third heat went to Carol Weatherall’s impressive No Rush (14.82) with a 29.50 run. He was followed home by Coyote Bear (15.33) and Blythe Blaze (15.66).
