Despite seeing his two pups Droopys Conrad and Potent Touch knock each other over in the semis of the Stadium Bookmakers Juvenile Classic, Jimmy Wright thinks his luck might slowly be turning.

Referring to the recent cancer treatment for partner Angela Harrison, he said: “The most important thing is that Angela got the all-clear last week. That is easily the best news we could get this year.

“As far as the pups are concerned, they are about to be checked over but they are walking okay and I don’t think there will be a problem. It was just one of those things. I thought they had just done each other, though it is possible that the five could have caused it. Lee Field was telling me that he is trying to get the dog’s seeding changed to rails, but hasn’t been allowed to do it.

“It is disappointing but you just have to get on with it. I thought they did very well with the watering last night. I much prefer the hose to the bowser and it looked perfect.”

The kennel have endured a disastrous run of career ending injuries but there was good news on one of the most high profile of those runners.

Jimmy said: “Droopys Reel has produced four dogs and four bitches to Eden The Kid, and they are absolutely cracking pups. She has done so well.

“We are trying to look forward now. We eased up on open racing when Angela was taken ill but we have some cracking young dogs and hopefully we will be a bit more on the open race scene going forward. The biggest frustration is the lack of puppy opens.”

The David Mullins trained Brookside Richie clocked the fastest semi final on Tuesday night with a 29.34 run. It was his fourth win in six races (with two 2nd places). Incidentally, Richie’s dam, the ex-Romford A1 runner Droopys Greatest is a litter sister to the former Angela Harrison star, Droopys Verve
