Sheffield boss John Gilburn has responded to Matt Chapman’s outburst on last night’s televised Oaks/Laurels card in which he questions the GBGB’s role in the allocation of the 2017 English Derby . . .
A clearly irritated Gilburn said: “A lot has been suggested, mainly on the forums, to suggest that the decision on the Derby has been held up to allow Sheffield to arrange its sponsorship. That is complete rubbish. Nothing has been finalised. We are of course very interested in staging the Derby and feel Sheffield would be an ideal venue. However, it would have a significant impact on the stadium, not least with our graded strength and trainers, and that is still being discussed. Until that has been concluded we have nothing else to say.”
