Two years ago the young British bred pup Candlelight Fire (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Peaches, Apr 14) finished lame in a run-off for a place in the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby Final.
On Tuesday night, Elaine Parker’s black delivered his 34th win in his 64th race and did so in the fastest Sheffield 480m performance of his career 27.56 (on going rated .10 slow).
It was his eighth win in his last nine races, and was the second leg of a treble in the Goole trainer’s open race buckle with Russ Warren at the top of the open race table.
Swift Aspen | £1,750 | 487 | 6 |
Ballycowen Colm | £1,250 | 280 | 5 |
Slaneyside Ryder | £750 | 480 | 3 |
Swift Marvelette | £3,500 | 600 | 3 |
Six of Russ’s wins are credited to Swift Aspen who failed to extend her lead at the top of the runners table to seven.
In fact, all four of his runners on the night have been successful this year but drew a blank.
The leading graded trainer is Louise Taylorson with 50 victories, Barrie Draper is second with Elaine Parker in third.
