Happy Camper landed his second consecutive race at Monmore as he prepares for next week’s Lawrence Jones Memorial Festival Stakes over 684 metres.
Andy Griffiths’ runner took full advantage of the absence of St Leger winner Fizzypop Buddy when picking up long-time leader Judicial Review to score by a short head in 41.64sec.
The other trial stake went to Peterborough raider Gleneagles Tina, who got up on the line to deny Great Deal by a short head in 41.81sec.
Griffiths was also on the mark with Global Chariot in the Ladbrokes.com 480 when he got the better of a battle with local runner Bog Brae by just over a length in 28.46sec.
Jimmy Wright’s Droopys Alessio took advantage of his rails draw in the top 416 metre contest to score a four length victory over Tyrur Vettel in 24.48sec. The other division went to Steve Race’s Head Iton Boris in 24.86sec.
The Festival features four two-round events worth £5,00 to the winner over 416 metres, 480 metres for dogs and pups and one over 684 metres. The heats will take place next Friday with the final seven days later. All races will feature on the BAGS service.
St Leger winner Fizzypop Buddy, was withdrawn from his intended race on the card and instead trialled over 684 metres clocking 41.39sec.
Over 480 metres, Northern Puppy Derby winner Droopys Buick clocked 28.39sec in his solo spin.
Kennelmate and fellow Northern Puppy Derby finalist Droopys Five posted 28.63sec in his solo.
Patrick Janssens’ Barricane Bullet did 28.62sec while Steve Race’s Scottish Derby finalist La Cuchilla went fastest when posting 28.34sec in his workout.
